# How to Enable Asset Inheritance

### <mark style="color:blue;">What Is Asset Inheritance?</mark>

Built on EIP-7702, TokenPocket Asset Inheritance lets you designate an heir and set an inactivity period and inheritance waiting period—without sharing your private key or transferring your assets in advance.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">How It Works</mark>

Set Inheritance Rules → Inactivity Period Reached → Heir Submits Request → Waiting Period → Complete Inheritance and Transfer Assets

The two time-based conditions help prevent unintended inheritance and give the wallet owner time to respond.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">Use Cases</mark>

**Inheritance Planning**

Create a clear transfer path for onchain assets in the event of the wallet owner’s passing.

**Lost Private Key**

If the original wallet becomes inaccessible, the designated heir can transfer the assets once the preset conditions are met.

**Long-Term Holdings & Family Planning**

Plan ahead for long-term onchain holdings and family asset management.

> **Important:** Asset Inheritance is not a private key recovery feature. It does not restore, modify, or replace the original EOA private key. The heir receives permission to transfer assets, not the original wallet’s private key. Reverting the wallet to a standard EOA will invalidate the current inheritance.

### <mark style="color:blue;">1. How to Set Up Asset Inheritance</mark>

#### <mark style="color:blue;">Before You Begin</mark>

Before setting up Asset Inheritance:

* [Download or update TokenPocket](https://tp.xyz/) to the latest version.
* Prepare a wallet address controlled by the intended heir.
* Make sure the current wallet has enough funds to cover the network fee.
* Do not use an exchange deposit address or another custodial address as the heir address.
* If you use a contract wallet, make sure it can submit an inheritance request transaction.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">Steps</mark>

#### <mark style="color:blue;">1. Open Asset Inheritance</mark>

Open TokenPocket and switch to the wallet you want to protect.

Tap **“···”** in the upper-right corner of the wallet card to open **Wallet Details**. Expand **Advanced Mode**, then select **Asset Inheritance**.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">2. Review and Confirm</mark>

Review how Asset Inheritance works, then tap **Enable Asset Inheritance**.

Read the important information on the confirmation page, select the confirmation boxes, and tap **I Understand, Continue**.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">3. Set the Heir and Inheritance Rules</mark>

On the **Set Heir** page, enter the heir’s address or tap **Choose Wallet** to select one.

Double-check the address and make sure it is controlled by the heir. Do not use an exchange deposit address or another custodial address.

Only one heir is currently supported. For shared management, you can use a compatible multisig wallet address.

Tap **Next**, then set:

* **Inactivity Period:** The time the wallet must remain inactive before the heir can submit an inheritance request.
* **Inheritance Waiting Period:** The time the heir must wait after submitting a request before completing the inheritance.

Tap **Next** to continue.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">4. Enable Notifications and Sign</mark>

On the **Inheritance Alerts Matter** page, make sure **App Push Notifications** are enabled.

TokenPocket will notify you when the wallet approaches the inactivity threshold or when the heir submits an inheritance request.

Tap **Next**, review the inheritance rules, and complete the signature. Asset Inheritance will be enabled once the transaction is confirmed onchain.

### <mark style="color:blue;">Important Notes</mark>

* Asset Inheritance does not recover the private key or invalidate the original EOA private key.
* The heir receives permission to transfer assets, not the original wallet’s private key.
* Do not use an exchange deposit address or another custodial address as the heir address.
* Keep TokenPocket App Push Notifications enabled and monitor inheritance alerts.
* After inheritance is completed, the heir should move the assets to a new secure wallet as soon as possible.
* Reverting the wallet to a standard EOA will invalidate the existing onchain inheritance rules. Asset Inheritance can be enabled again if needed.

### <mark style="color:blue;">Frequently Asked Questions</mark>

#### <mark style="color:blue;">1. Can the wallet owner stop an inheritance?</mark>

Yes. Even after the inheritance is completed, the wallet owner can disable Asset Inheritance as long as the heir has not transferred the assets. This will invalidate the inheritance.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">2. Can Asset Inheritance recover my private key?</mark>

No. Asset Inheritance does not recover, modify, or replace the original EOA private key. It provides the heir with a separate path to transfer assets after the preset conditions are met.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">3. Can I assign multiple heirs?</mark>

Only one heir is currently supported. For shared management, you can use a compatible multisig wallet address.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">4. Can the heir complete the inheritance immediately?</mark>

No. The heir can submit a request only after the inactivity period has passed and must then wait until the inheritance waiting period ends.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">5. Can I continue using the wallet after enabling Asset Inheritance?</mark>

Yes. After the EIP-7702 upgrade, the wallet can still be used much like a standard EOA wallet.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">6. Does the heir receive the wallet’s private key?</mark>

No. The heir receives permission to transfer assets, not the original private key. After inheritance is completed, the assets should be moved to a new secure wallet.

#### <mark style="color:blue;">7. What happens if I revert the wallet to a standard EOA?</mark>

The existing inheritance rules will no longer apply. You can enable Asset Inheritance again if needed.
